Everyday I photograph a door in Lisbon

Olá! My name is Eduardo, and I’m the photographer behind Porta de Lisboa.

My fascination with doors began more than twenty years ago while I was living in Dublin. The architecture was so different from my country of origin, Spain, that I was immediately drawn to it — especially the doors. Their design, their age, the quiet stories they seemed to hold. There was something deeply special about them.

In 2017 I moved to Lisbon and quickly realised that the variety of doors here — in style, materials, colours, history, and atmosphere — was even richer. For years I had the idea of starting a photography project dedicated to Lisbon’s doors. When the pandemic suddenly gave me the time I had always lacked, I finally began. Porta de Lisboa was born on Instagram.

If you’ve walked through Lisbon, you may have noticed that I don’t photograph every door. The choice is intuitive. I photograph the ones that speak to me on a particular day, the ones that carry a mood, a memory, or a quiet (sometimes loud) presence.

I hope these photographs awaken something in you — an emotion, a thought, perhaps a memory. To me, that is the true power of photography.

Fine-art Lisbon photography, turned into postcards you can send, share or keep

All photographs from the project are available as postcards. I chose this format because it makes the work accessible to everyone — and because postcards are meant to travel, to be shared, to gift a small piece of a place from one person to another.

Each postcard is A6 (105 x 148mm), printed on demand on 200gsm fine art paper, giving it a soft, silky texture and a timeless feel that matches the care taken in each photograph. Printing and shipping are done at the end of each week in Lisbon.

How to navigate through the gallery

You can browse the full catalogue from the main page, where doors are displayed in chronological order, starting with the most recent.
On the top left, you’ll find a button that takes you to a random door.
On the top right, the search icon allows you to look for a specific door by street name (partial or complete) or by date using the YYMMDD format.
Use Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) while clicking to open a door in a new tab

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or would like to collaborate — or enquire about fine-art prints — feel free to get in touch through the contact page or email me directly at mail@portadelisboa.com.
